Three years ago, saying “I’m going to optimize for Bing” sounded like a joke. Today we are sharing the actual data from our own production sites so you can see why it no longer is.

The headline number

Across the 8 sites we maintain with the Directorio tool from SeoNova, the past 30 days look like this:

  • Google: 3,243 clicks
  • Bing: 9,471 clicks

Bing brings 74.5% of our total SEO traffic. That is nearly 3 times more than Google.

It is not a quirk from a single site. Look at the per-site breakdown:

Site (sanitized name)Google clicks (30d)Bing clicks (30d)% from Bing
Consulta Vehículos2860295.6 %
Servicio Tejados US2221990.9 %
Comparador Seguros42284.6 %
Blog Educación5182,43082.4 %
Centro Médico Local8653,81281.5 %
Blog Mascotas8120571.7 %
Directorio Logística1,4901,90556.1 %
Recetas Cocina23527654.0 %

There are sites where more than 90% of all SEO traffic comes from Bing. If those sites only looked at Google Search Console, they would conclude SEO does not work — when in reality it works very well, just on a different engine.

Site names are sanitized; the data and ratios are taken verbatim from our internal dashboard. The dashboard runs in Spanish — site labels reflect that.

The picture tells it better than the table

Inside the SeoNova Directorio internal dashboard we track impressions per engine, per site, in real time. Here is a screenshot from a real site (name replaced for privacy). Bing is the orange line, Google is the purple line:

Chart with Bing above Google over the past 30 days

The gap is not 10%, not even 2x. It is 3-5x.

Looking at them in isolation makes it even clearer:

Google only:

Google only — peaks around 7.5k impressions

Bing only:

Bing only — peaks around 25k impressions

Same period, same site, same listings. Bing puts us in front of more than 3 times the people Google does.

And average position confirms it:

  • On Google we rank at average position ~17 (second page, almost nobody clicks)
  • On Bing we rank at average position ~6 (first page, top of fold)

For the same content, Bing places us near the top while Google buries us on page two. Why?

Why Bing is overperforming in 2026

Three reasons, none of them accidental:

1. Google is saturated. Bing is not.

Every competitive niche on Google has 50 professional sites fighting for the top 10. Same niche on Bing: 5-10 sites making a serious effort. The competition is 5-10x lighter.

If your content is decent and you do the technical SEO basics, on Google you fight against Wikipedia and agencies with six-figure budgets. On Bing you fight against fewer sites, many of them still doing SEO like it is 2018.

2. IndexNow indexes new pages in hours, not weeks

Bing supports the IndexNow protocol (a free system that pings the search engine within seconds when you publish something new). You ping Bing and it gets indexed in hours. Sometimes minutes.

Google… takes its time. For new pages on small or mid-sized sites, Google can take 2-8 weeks to index. Some pages it never indexes at all.

While you wait for Google to bother looking at your URL, Bing is already ranking it and bringing clicks.

In SeoNova Directorio we fire IndexNow to Bing automatically after every publish. It is one of the things with the biggest real impact in the first 30 days.

And why is Google not indexing you? Spoiler: it is almost never Google’s fault.

Most likely Googlebot reaches your hosting, finds it saturated with malicious bots (scrapers, vuln scanners, runaway AI crawlers, ad-stat inflators) and reduces crawl rate until you stop getting indexed. Google documents this since 2017: if your server is slow or returns 5xx, it lowers crawl frequency automatically.

According to the Imperva Bad Bot Report 2025, 49.6% of all web traffic in 2024 was bot — and over half of that, malicious bot. If you filter nothing, your hosting is serving pages to robots half the day, and Googlebot gets less budget to spend on you.

We cover it in depth in Why Google does not index you: bots are eating your crawl budget — with real data and how to fix it. The SeoNova WPO Toolkit ships a security module built for exactly this: acts as a bouncer at the door, blocks malicious bots before they hit your PHP, and leaves crawl budget free for Googlebot and Bingbot.

3. ChatGPT, Copilot, Edge, DuckDuckGo and AI Overviews all consume Bing

This is what a lot of people still have not realized:

  • ChatGPT (when browsing) uses the Bing Search API
  • Microsoft Copilot runs on Bing as its primary engine
  • Edge ships with Bing as default on millions of new Windows laptops
  • DuckDuckGo has its own crawler but heavily weights Bing’s results
  • Yahoo Search has been served by Bing since 2019

When someone asks ChatGPT “what roofing shop is near Chicago,” ChatGPT answers in part based on what it sees on Bing. If your listing ranks well on Bing, you show up in ChatGPT. If it does not, you do not exist.

And this is only going to grow. Every new generative AI tool that ships uses Bing instead of Google, because Google puts up bigger barriers around their index.

”But fewer people search on Bing…”

True. Bing’s official direct-search market share sits around 4-8% depending on the region.

So what? What matters is the clicks reaching your site, not the engine’s overall share. If Bing brings you 9,471 free clicks per month and Google brings 3,243, those 9,471 are worth exactly the same as they would be coming from Google.

Also, that official share does not count ChatGPT, Copilot, or AI Overviews — and all of them consume Bing under the hood. The real share of traffic that originates on Bing and ends up flowing through its index is much higher than what public stats show.

What to actually do to take advantage of Bing

Four concrete things, ordered by impact:

1. Sign up to Bing Webmaster Tools — free and mandatory

https://www.bing.com/webmasters

Verify your site (same flow as Google Search Console). Once verified you will see Bing traffic data you are currently ignoring. Just that opens your eyes.

2. Enable IndexNow

IndexNow is a free protocol that pings Bing whenever you publish something new. Supported by WordPress (via plugin), Cloudflare (automatic), and any framework with a fetch to a URL.

WordPress: install the IndexNow plugin from Yoast or Rank Math, paste the key, done.

In SeoNova we have it automatic for every listing in Directorio. Publish → ping Bing → indexed in hours.

3. Optimize titles and H1s with Bing in mind

Bing weights more heavily:

  • Exact keyword match in the title and H1
  • Higher keyword density than Google would tolerate
  • Low-quality backlinks do not penalize as much as on Google

That last point does not mean go spam, but it does mean Bing is more forgiving for new sites without a clean backlink profile.

4. Measure

GA4 brings Bing traffic together with Google under “Organic Search.” Filter by source/medium and you will see how much of the total is Bing. The surprise is real.

In SeoNova Directorio we have it in the internal dashboard from day one because without that data you cannot make real decisions.

Wrap up

If you have a site and you only optimize for Google, you are leaving between 40% and 95% of the possible SEO traffic on the table, depending on the niche.

Bing is not “the search engine your dad uses.” It is the search engine sending real people, real clicks, and real conversions. And it is dramatically cheaper to rank in.

Does this mean abandoning Google? No. But it does mean stop ignoring Bing as if it were 2015. The numbers do not lie.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear the most about this topic

How long does it take Bing to index a new page?
If you enable IndexNow, usually between minutes and a few hours. Without IndexNow, Bing is just as fast as the classic sitemap flow: days, not the weeks Google can take.
Does IndexNow cost money?
No. It is a free protocol from Microsoft and Yandex. You only need a free Bing Webmaster Tools account and a generated key.
Is Bing useful if I only want Spanish-speaking traffic?
Yes. Bing has meaningful market share in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and the rest of LATAM. And all ChatGPT browsing, Copilot, Edge and DuckDuckGo traffic in Spanish goes through Bing under the hood.
Does Bing show up in Google Analytics as SEO traffic?
Yes. GA4 groups Bing under 'Organic Search' next to Google. To see it separately, filter by source/medium = bing/organic.
Does Google still matter if I get more traffic from Bing?
Yes, but it stops being the only metric. If Bing brings you 3× more clicks than Google, Google is the bottleneck — usually crawl budget or extreme competition in your niche.
